Beyond the Chalk Features Bo Sandoval of UFC Institute and Jon Feinman of InnerCity Weightlifting

WOODSTOCK, Ga. – Dec. 27, 2017 – The most recent Beyond the Chalk videos from PLAE showcase two starkly different professional experiences: Bo Sandoval, Director of Strength & Conditioning at UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas, and Jon Feinman, CEO of InnerCity Weightlifting in Boston, Mass.

Beyond the Chalk is an ongoing video series where internationally recognized strength & conditioning coach Ron McKeefery (Coach Mac) shares powerful glimpses of those making a difference in the strength & conditioning industry.

Bo Sandoval

In discussing how he is passionately pursuing his dream helping fighters perfect their performance at this elite MMA training facility, Sandoval emphasizes his family as the most important part of his life, and how having a child with special needs has taught him invaluable humility and empathy that he uses in coaching.

“You can never have too many tools in your toolbox,” Sandoval said. “If it fills up, then buy a bigger toolbox.”

Sandoval most recently was assistant director of strength & conditioning for Olympic sports at the University of Michigan, and previously was a strength & conditioning specialist at the United States Olympic Training Center.

Jon Feinman

InnerCity Weightlifting aims to reduce youth violence by connecting proven-risk young people with new networks and opportunities, including career tracks in and beyond fitness, to help eliminate the segregation and isolation that leads to street violence and recidivism. Although more than 50 percent of InnerCity students have been shot, and more than 90 percent have spent significant time in jail, many now have dramatically changed their lives and embarked on careers, thanks to the confidence and skills learned at the gym.

Of Feinman’s impact, one student said, “Jon sees something in all of us that we didn’t even see in ourselves. He makes all of us better people in a lot of ways.”

Feinman worked for AmeriCorps and as a certified personal trainer before he opened InnerCity Weightlifting in 2010.
